Strengthening the Roots: Food & Justice Convergence -- Feb. 12-14, 2010
Mark your calendars! On Feb. 12-14, 2010, the Real Food Challenge will be hosting its third annual summit at UC Santa Cruz in collaboration with the CSSC and the UCSC Food Systems Working Group. This regional gathering of students and allies will strengthen the roots of our movement for just and sustainable food. The convergence will empower high school and college students to actively engage in their local communities and institutions by providing them with leadership skills, successful models and case studies, and a broader network of activists and allies.
If you're interested in planning the 2010 gathering for food and justice, please contact Kelsey Meagher at strengthentheroots@gmail.com
Last year the kick-off national month of action for Real Food Now! took place and concluded 2008-2009 with over 300 campuses joining the initiative! Stand with thousands of students—including fair trade and farmworkers rights advocates, student farmers, local food champions and campus sustainability leaders—on hundreds of campuses as we act for a more just and sustainable food system. Students and their allies—from Hawaii to New Hampshire—organized potlucks, community teach-ins, and real food roundtables to highlight the need for real change in campus food.
