Overview

The California Student Sustainability Coalition unites, connects, supports, and empowers students from across California to transform their educational institutions and communities into models of ecological, economic, and social sustainability. The CSSC is 100% volunteer-run by students, past and present.

The CSSC operates on a model of consensus, love, and positive action, and operates through three separate yet equal bodies: the Council, Operating Team and Board of Directors.

Projects and Campaigns must be approved by the Council and Board of Directors, and any student has the opportunity to bring up new partnerships and projects through the Council and at the bi-annual leadership retreats.

Council

The Council is the representative body of different student organizations and campuses across the state. The council deals with the implementation of projects and campaigns on campuses, and is the driving force of our organization, as it is constantly bringing in fresh ideas and faces. In addition to acting as a reporting source for what is going on at the different campuses, it also acts as the outreach vehicle to spread the ideals and resources of the CSSC.

Operating Team

The Operating Team, composed of student volunteers, is the executive body of the Council and performs the day-to-day functions of the CSSC, including updating the website, social media sites, sending out newsletters, and planning the bi-annual Convergences and Leadership Retreats.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides financial and developmental oversight to the organization, making sure that all programs and campaigns we take on board are in line with the mission and vision of our students, and that they are financially viable. The Board of Directors makes final adjustments to partnership agreements and acts as the grant writer, employer, and treasurer of the CSSC.
