CALLING ALL CAMPUSES!!!
Will you host the next Convergence?
Convergences are one of CSSC’s largest, most exciting, and most beloved programs. To put on the next Convergence, we need a dedicated team of organizers! We are extremely excited to announce that we are now accepting submissions for campuses to host the Fall 2015 Convergence! Please read on to learn about applying, and send this message to members of your organization for consideration.
The DEADLINE for submissions is Tuesday, July 31st, 2015 by 11:59 PM Pacific.
Convergences are held twice a year, and each is hosted by a different campus chapter. At this weekend-long event, students are able to attend workshops, panels, breakout groups, and caucuses on topics that fill the range of environmental and social justice. It is an incredible and powerful student-run program that has reached out to thousands of students and organizers across California over its many years of existence.
This past April, we held the Spring Convergence at Loyola Marymount University, co-hosted with Santa Monica College - this was one of the first Southern California Convergences in many years and the first ever Convergence to be hosted by a private university!! In November 2014, we had the Fall Convergence at UC Davis, which was the largest Convergence in CSSC history with over 600 attendees!!!
Each Convergence is an exhilarating and beautiful experience that is made unique by the campus that hosts it. Each chapter brings their own team’s vision, their unique campus climate, and the work of their community to the Convergence experience. This diversity is one of the most prized aspects of Convergences, which is why we wholly encourage every campus to consider applying to host!
TO APPLY:
- Read about the CSSC Convergence on our website!
- Ask your campus chapter/coalition about hosting - We highly recommend gathering a core team of at least 5 people on-campus prior to applying.
- Read through the CSSC Convergence Sample Proposal.
- Read through the Theme and Intent from the LMU/SMC Spring 2015 Convergence.
- If you have done all the above steps and are still interested in applying, create a proposal similar to the Sample Proposal.
- Email your proposal as either a Google Doc or PDF (not Microsoft Word, please) to Alyssa Lee at <[email protected]>
The DEADLINE for submissions is Tuesday, July 31st, 2015 by 11:59 PM Pacific.
The task of hosting a Convergence is certainly daunting and a huge commitment - here is a document with examples of roles and responsibilities for campus hosts. We encourage everyone to consider applying but only if you have a dedicated team who is serious about spending 3-4 months planning and executing this experience. Know that if your campus is selected, you will have the support of the CSSC Council, Operating Team, Staff, Board of Directors, as well as our huge sustainabilbuddy network!
We appreciate your support and involvement in CSSC - you are all what make our network so strong and powerful. Thank you for encouraging the love in this world. We hope to extend this opportunity to provide you with the resources and platform to grow and empower students across California!
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact Alyssa Lee <[email protected]> or ask a prior Convergence host!!!
