Mission Statement

Theme: Uniting the Three E’s of Sustainability

The California Student Sustainability Coalition’s mission statement is to unite and empower California’s community of higher education to collaboratively and nonviolently transform ourselves and our institutions based on our inherent social, economic, and ecological responsibilities. It has been the observation of members in this organization that a renewal of our commitment to our values is in order, particularly in addressing our inherent social, economic, and ecological responsibilities. The sustainability movement has, for better or worse, been labeled and even branded by the mainstream to be essentially an offshoot branch of environmentalism, ecology, and the so called “Green Movement”. It is for that reason that our intention is to reaffirm our understanding that sustainability is equally in parts comprised of Social Justice, Economic Equality, as well as Environmental Stewardship.

The Fall 2012 convergence is being designed to demonstrate through our themes, topics, entertainment, speakers, and workshops that the CSSC sees the 3 E’s as equal, interconnected, and essential to create a truly just and sustainable society. We wish to emphasise a convergence atmosphere which will be accepting, embracing and welcoming of all the diverse aspects of sustainability. To broden the scope of our influence, and to empower a greater audience of future leaders we encourage outreach and support regarding Economic and Social Equity, which can be alienated by the environmentally dominant view of sustainability.

Butte College and its allies will be organizing, facilitating, and hosting the California Student Sustainability Coalition’s Fall 2012 Convergence. It is our mission to create the most mind blowing experience we can offer; by using an expertly balanced recipe of Creativity, Imagination, and Love: as well as the dedication of strong local and statewide allies and organizations.

How you can help our convergence fulfill its mission statement?

If you are part of the Environmental branch of sustainability invite all of the leaders from your campus and clubs involved in Economic and Social Equity. If you are working in the Economic branch of Sustainability, discover your allies within the Social Equity movement, and environmental stewardship. If you are involved in Social Justice and Equity outreach to the organizations in your area that are involved in Environmental and Economic Justice. It is time we come together in solidarity as the most resourceful and diverse organizations for positive being that we can be!

  1. I have swam with a humpback whale in hawaii and chased bears in yosemite climbed shasta and bottem of grand canyon. But sadly in my lifetime American’s have started an unsustanable lifestyle that other country’s copy that is going to kill the Earth fast. if you and your kids want to survive we have to change fast. Our entire mentality needs to change. An Island in Denmark converted to all their electric to renewable in ten years. Why can’t we ? It is up to your generation to change or DIE.
