I work with schools running the ESLP program and help them to overcome any obstacles or barriers that are hindering their progress. Additionally, if there is interest in high profile speakers, I coordinate schools to work together to split the cost and make it a tour. Lastly, I work with the faculty of schools who want to run the ESLP and help create a program that fits that school.

About Me
Michael Carpol, an alumnus of the CSSC, graduated from UCLA in June 2009 with a degree in Economics, and focuses on Public Policy and Environmental Studies. At UCLA he was a Co-Director of ESLP and founder of Green the Greeks.
Currently, he lives in the Bay Area, working for one of the greenest night clubs in the world, Temple in San Francisco. He also interns for Sustainable San Mateo County.
As ESLP Statewide Coordinator, Michael works with students and faculty at participating schools to make ESLP successful given their academic climate. Through ESLP, faculty works more closely with their students, fostering the growth of human capital and students have more control of their academic careers. Michael also encourages bonding outside of work and school because ultimately, happiness, social capital, and human networks will make the greater movement successful.
How I Got Involved In CSSC
I became involved with the CSSC because any leader in the green movement at their school has a lot to gain from getting involved. I met other energetic, passionate and capable people that have helped to make my passions become realities. It is a great network of people to tap into.
The Area of Sustainability That Interests Me Most
Edutainment. Socianthropy. Social events, or parties, that either incorporate education or philanthropy.
The Role of Student Action in Sustainability
We are the next leaders of the world. By engaging us, faculty can be reassured that they are helping grow human capital. We also have not yet committed to deeply to a career and are able to change and move more quickly than the older, more established generations.
Sustainability Projects I’ve Worked On
- leading ESLP lecture series at UCLA
- ART (Action Research Team) Project on waste from student union and cost comparison for switching to post-consumer composting
