To further the student sustainability movement. The CSSC wants to mobilize and educate California’s student leaders. To do this, we have created a new program called Campus Organizing Trainings (COT’s). COT’s are educational workshops created with the purpose of teaching students how to become organizers, share skills, and to become empowered.
Our trainings are not focused on one specific program or campaign, but on skills and leadership development. Each student has a diverse set of needs and through COT’s we want to give students the support needed to organize around the issues affecting their campuses the most.
COT Workshops:
Workshops will only be taking place within the Bay Area. Topics covered fall under two categories; educational and skill sharing. The following workshops will be offered within the next three months:
Educational
- Environmental Justice
- Climate Change Denial in US Politics
Skill Sharing
- Time Management and Sustainable Organizing
- Campus Outreach
- Social Media and Online Organizing
Throughout the year, we will be adding more topics to our workshop list. Workshops will start in late March or early April and attendees will pay a $15 to $25 registration fee to attend. A sliding scale is offered to ensure all students have access to participate in COT’s. A single workshop will last three hours to help facilitate student participation, skill sharing, and community building.
How to Become Involved
You can become involved with Campus Organizing Trainings in various ways! If you’re a student you can apply to become a COT Facilitator, host a COT Workshop on your campus, and let your friends and colleagues know about this opportunity. If you find yourself unable to to do this or you’re a supportive community member, consider donating to the CSSC. Your money will be used to maintain and expand this new program.
